Path of Exile 2's 0.5 expansion, Return of the Ancients, launches the new Runes of Aldur league on May 29, 2026, and one build is already standing out as one of the safest and strongest league starters available: Supporting Fire Tactician. The build doesn't rely on expensive uniques, complicated mechanics, or rare gear drops, which makes it incredibly appealing for both new players and veterans jumping into a fresh economy POE 2 Orbs.

What makes Supporting Fire so strong is how naturally the skill scales. Once unlocked in Act 2 at level 22, it rains arrows across a huge area and gains power from three very easy stats to stack: strength for damage, dexterity for area size, and minion scaling through the Muster support setup. Because of that, the build feels powerful even with basic self-found gear, which is exactly what most players want from a league starter.

The leveling process is also smooth from the very beginning. Early on, most players start with explosive grenades supported by multishot and fire attunement to rush through Act 1 quickly. Around level 6, you can temporarily use skeletal snipers alongside gas arrow and flame wall for extra damage before transitioning fully into Supporting Fire once it becomes available.

As soon as you unlock the skill, the build starts feeling much stronger. Bidding One becomes one of the key support gems because it lowers Supporting Fire's cooldown while increasing its damage output. By the time you reach level 28 and grab the important cooldown recovery nodes on the passive tree, the skill starts approaching near-constant uptime, which completely changes the pace of combat.

One reason the build feels so beginner-friendly is because the gameplay loop stays simple without becoming weak. During the campaign, you mainly cast Supporting Fire on cooldown while using gas arrow between casts for extra damage. Flame wall also plays a big role early because ignited enemies trigger stronger explosions from gas arrow, helping melt bosses much faster than most players expect from a starter build.

Once you hit level 36 and unlock another support slot, the build really starts coming together. Adding Muster to Supporting Fire and your skeletal archers creates extra minions, which then boost Supporting Fire damage even more through minion scaling interactions. By endgame, the screen is basically covered in arrows and explosions constantly.

The build also transitions into mapping very comfortably. Instead of relying on fragile energy shield setups, Supporting Fire Tactician leans heavily into armor stacking and defensive layering, which fits perfectly with the balance changes introduced in patch 0.5. The new passive tree adjustments heavily favor armor and evasion defenses, so the build benefits from the new meta naturally without needing major adjustments.

For survivability, many players add Blasphemy with Temporal Chains during maps, making enemies slower and easier to control. Several accessible uniques also help round out the build later on, including Meginord's Girdle for strength scaling, Trench Timber for extra damage, and Breast Dome as a durable long-term chest option. None of these are mandatory early, though, which is a huge advantage during the first few days of a new league.

What really keeps this build near the top of league starter discussions is consistency. Other builds may scale harder later with expensive gear, but Supporting Fire Tactician works almost immediately, requires very little investment, and comfortably clears campaign and early maps with almost no frustration u4gm Divine Orb. In a fresh league environment where currency and uniques are limited, that reliability matters a lot.
